About NCAS

Northcote Art School is a fun, creative art school with lessons and workshops for both young artists and adults.

Our art classes are designed to inspire and invigorate young minds . Our goal is to cultivate and expand the artistic potential within each student, while creating an atmosphere that feels warm and welcoming. At Northcote Art , we believe in unlocking the imagination and fostering a love for artistic expression.

Our experienced and passionate artists guide the students through a vibrant array of mediums, including painting, printing, drawing, and mixed media. By exploring these diverse forms, our students can discover their own unique artistic style and develop essential skills such as colour theory, composition, and perspective.

But it's not just about technical skills—our focus extends beyond that. We want our young artists to gain confidence, self-expression, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty found in art. As they embark on this enriching journey, they will not only nurture their creativity but also learn to communicate their thoughts and emotions through their artwork.

We are able to support and guide our students with scholarship portfolios and course work. We are happy to talk you through the process. We want to ensure that each individual receives the guidance they need to flourish and reach their artistic potential.

Join us at Northcote Art  where vibrant classes and passionate instructors inspire young artists to grow, express themselves, and embrace the beauty of art.

THE PROCESS

At Northcote Arts, we wholeheartedly believe in the power of the process. We place the emphasis on the creative journey rather than the end result, making it invaluable for young artists. Our young artsists are allowed to experiement freely with techniques and materials within adult led lessons and workshops.

Through process-oriented creativity, our students can freely express themselves, explore various materials and techniques, and cultivate their imagination. This approach fosters individuality, originality, and a deeper understanding of artistic materials. It also enhances focus, concentration, and emotional expression. Within our non-judgmental environment, young artists can fearlessly explore their abilities, resulting in a richer portfolio and a genuine love for art.

Ultimately, process art nurtures their overall well-being, allowing them to embrace the joy of creating.

About me.

Hello, I’m Sophie and I opened Northcote Art School in September 2023. I live a stone’s throw from the studio, off Northcote Road, with my four daughters, our dog, and two cats.

I studied Fine Art at Winchester School of Art followed by Kingston University.  After graduating I  worked as a literary agent before opening a restaurant. Throughout my adult life  I found myself always returning to something that had brought me joy— being creative and making art with my children. From that love, Northcote Art School was born.

I began teaching in the church hall above Dolphin School on a Saturday, and from there we quickly grew into our studio on Northcote Road. Which has become a small, magical (messy!) creative hub.

Northcote Art School is rooted in sharing my passion for art and being creative. The confidence it grows and the ability to heal, restore and creative a base line that you can come back to no matter what age or stage in your life you are. Our aim is for art to be accessible to everyone, and the value of the process rather than the end result.

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to do what I love every day, alongside an inspiring and supportive community.
